the two candlestick bases of typical waisted form, the larger with wide band with thuluth inscription interspersed with two large lotus blossom roundels, the smaller with three calligraphic cartouches interspersed with three heraldic blazons; the larger tray stand upper section with a central band composed of three calligraphic and three vegetal panels separated by floral medallions and heraldic blazons of the Emir of Safad, the smaller with large thuluth inscription and two floral medallions enclosing calligraphic roundels

Condition

The larger candlestick base cut down, with crack and consolidation near edge, small crack to protruding band, silver-inlay missing, some patches of corrosion to interior, smaller candlestick base also cut down, with uneven edge, small cracks in body, one with consolidation, silver-inlay missing, larger tray strand fragment with damage to edge (cracks and breaks), three drill holes, surface heavily rubbed, the smaller tray stand fragment also with cracks along edge, and oxidisation, rubbing to surface, silver inlay missing, as viewed.

Saif al-Din Aruqtay was nominated as Governor of Safad in 1318, and 1335 marks the date of his return to Egypt to become Viceroy, see Mayer 1933, pp.78-79.
