Catalogue Note

A similar European-style youth with his dog was later depicted by Mu'in Musavvir (see B.W. Robinson, Persian and Mughal Art, London, Colnaghi, 1976, pp.78 & 81, no.55i). A further version of the same subject also by Mu'in is in the Topkapi Album (H.2142, f.15b), and a third illustrated in Persian and Indian Miniatures from the Collection of Edwin Binney III, exhibited at the Portland Art Museum, Portland, Maine, 1962, no.55. Reza-i 'Abbasi painted a related scene depicting a youth holding an excited dog on a leash also in the Binney Collection (B.W. Robinson, op.cit., pp.68 & 146, no.45).
