  • 207cm. 6ft. 9½in. high
10-inch dial with winged cherub spandrels, signed along the lower edge William Knottesford, Londini, skeletonised chapter ring, matted centre with seconds dial and date aperture, the movement with six knopped and ringed latched pillars, five wheel trains with offset winding to the going train, anchor escapement, outside count wheel striking on a bell, bolt and shutter maintaining power, the case with carved swan neck cresting above a moulded cushion cornice and spiral hood pillars, the trunk door with a lenticle and inlaid with panels of well-drawn flower and bird marquetry in various woods and stained ivory, on an oyster ground, the sides crossbanded and decorated with further oyster veneers, the plinth with a similar marquetry panel, on bun feet,

Condition

Dial in good condition, minute hand replaced. Movement is in good clean condition and appears to retain the original wheelwork throughout, seatboard replaced. The case in generally good condition with some old minor repairs, scuffs and marks. With pendulum, 2 brass-cased weights, winder and case key.

Catalogue Note

William Knottesford was apprenticed to Henry Child in 1657 and was Free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1664. He was Master of the Clockmakers' Company in 1693 and died in 1698.
