Description

  • 56cm. high, 29cm. wide, 15cm. deep; 1ft.10in., 11½in., 5¾in.
after the model of Marcus Aurelius on the Capitoline, Rome, on a rectangular plinth with an alternating band of beading and patera above roundels of various jaspers and with raised flowerheads on a green porphyry base 

Condition

In overall good conserved condition. The colour of the bronze is darker and more of a dark brown patination and the gilding is less greenish and slightly darker and much more attractive than in the catalogue photograph. Attractive detail to the casting of the bronze. Old very miniscule pitting to the gilt-bronze base with some minor rubbing and surface dirt. One green marble roundel on the base has probably been restored.
