Catalogue Note
Elements of the design of this chandelier relate to a chandelier attributed to André-Charles Boulle, now in the Collection of the Louvre, illustrated in Daniel Alcouffe, Gilt-bronzes in the Louvre, 2004, pl.6, p.32. The upper part of the stem with its scrolled figural motifs clearly derives from this original model. Another example can be seen in the Collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, illustrated in Hans Ottomeyer, Vergoldete Bronzen, Vol I, Munich 1986, pp.52-3.
