Catalogue Note
Benedetto Boschetti is not very well documented to date although a group of signed works in bronze and coloured marbles allow us to understand his abilities as an exceptionally skilled craftsman as well as an entrepreneur. He is first recorded in 1842, then as a mosaicisit, by Giuseppe Checchetelli in a publication which describes the palace and villa of Principe Alessandro Torlonia. His workshop in Via Condotti, no. 74, was listed in 1856, by Bonfigli in the Artistical Directory or Guide to the Studios of The Italian and Foreign Painters and Sculptors, Rome, 1856, which stated, 'The Establishment is particularly conspicuous for its great variety of marble works, bronzes, candelabras, table tops, ets. besides a rich collection of the best mosaics and shell engravings’. Boschetti exhibited at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851 where he received a medal. The last recorded mention of Boschetti is found in Murray's 1867 Handbook to Rome.
