painted by Andreas Philipp Oettner, with commedia dell'Arte and aristocratic figures in landscape vignettes, comprising a coffee pot and cover, a teapot and cover, a milk jug and cover, a sugar bowl and cover, a tea caddy and cover, a slop bowl, a spoon tray, three sets of six cups in three different sizes, and eighteen saucers, crowned interlaced CC marks in underglaze-blue, 45 and 51 in iron-red, various impressed marks,

Acquired by the Great-Grandparents of the present owner in the early 20th century;

Condition

The overall condition of this service is very good. There is typical wear to the gilding on the rims. The cover of the tea caddy is restored, 1 saucer, minute chip to rim, 1 saucer, chip to footrim, 1 cup has two hairline cracks and a chip to the footrim.

Catalogue Note

The painter Andreas Philipp Oettner is discussed by Horst Reber, Der Porzellanmaler Andreas Philipp Oettner, Keramos 63 (January 1974), pp. 11-46. Oettner first worked at the Nymphenburg factory in 1756, he then travelled to Frankenthal in 1759, then stayed at Ludwigsburg from 1759 to 1763. He is then recorded at Höchst from 1763-66, and Fürstenberg from 1767-1770.
