Description
- silver-gilt, agate, wood
comprising: six table knives, six table forks, eighteen dessert knives, eighteen dessert forks, each knife blade engraved with a crest, all in a fitted wood case, retailed by Thomass Goldsmiths & Jewellers, 153 New Bond Street
Provenance
Rev.d J. P. and M. Bremridge
Condition
The marks and overall condition are good, with only one of the handles showing a slight damage. The handles are of slightly varying shapes and sizes and may have been second hand when mounted (in 1826) as they are now. At least two of the handles may be later replacements because the shapes dont conform to the handles in the remainder of the set. It is clear that the case was made for these knives and forks, the spaces having been specifically shaped for these particular knives and forks and their handles. The lid of the box is a little warped and doesnt close properly but this is a minor problem.
