Catalogue Note

The goldsmith Jan Diederik Pont was born in Bremen in 1702 and became master in Amsterdam in 1729. He was one the most important 18th Century goldsmiths in the Netherlands and his production is extremely wide, from candelabra, sauce boats, table silver, to tobacco boxes. See Amsterdams goud en Zilver, Rijksmuseum, 1999, fig. 60, a silver and mother of pearl snuff box.
