- 79cm high., 65cm. wide, 50.5cm. deep; 2ft. 7¼in., 2ft. 2in., 1ft. 7¾in.
with a gilt-bronze galleried swivelling top cast with lunettes above a hinged lid with a removable panel signed Linning and Löfgren and dated 1793 with a printed paper label `Kongl. Hof-Schatmakaren Och Hof. Snickaren Joh. Christ. Linning, Uti Stockholm. No. 172 Köpmangatan', the fluted frieze on inward curved legs joined by a concave-sided stretcher carved with lunettes on gilt-bronze block pierced feet and brass castors, with a further crayon inscribed label to the underside Mamling Karlstad
Condition
In overall good conserved condition. Colour overall less orange and more attractive than in the catalogue photograph. There is a minor vertical construction crack running through the keyhole which can easily be filled. Old scattered age cracks and splits in the veneer on the stretcher due to minor warping. There is an repaired break to the top of one leg.

Johann Christian Linning (1749-1801), the son of Christian Linning, was a Stockholm master cabinet-maker who supplied furniture to the Court of Gustav III. He was received Master in 1779. He was also the half brother of Georg Haupt, furniture-maker to the Swedish king. Haupt and Linning entered a partnership at 24 Tottenham Court Road and in 1776 Linning returned to Sweden.
Isac Löfgren (1765-1816) was received Master in 1804. He started his career working for Georg Haupt.
