of ovoid form with a flaring neck, the matt-ground enriched on either side with the Triumph of Bacchus depicting either Bacchus or Ariadne seated in a chariot drawn by four goats or a pair of tigers, separated by anthemion motifs, the neck with a Greek-key band, with gilded bands at the foot, shoulder and rim,
Catalogue Note
A single vase in pink is illustrated by Jean-Louis Curtis, Baccarat, 1992, p. 223 and 228, where the technique is described as Pâte-de-riz agate glass cased with pink agate glass, which was exhibited at the 1867 Exposition Universelle, Paris. A similar pair in blue was sold in these rooms on 20th June 2000, lot 199, and a pair in pink was sold at Bonhams London, 19th May 2010, lot 141.
