Description

  • A hardstone jewel casket with silver and enamel mounts, Vienna, 1867-1872
  • silver, enamel, hardstone, rock crystal
  • 17.5cm., 6 7/8 in wide
rectangular, the rock crystal stepped cover and side panels engraved with urns of flowers, exotic birds and scrolls, the silver mounts enamelled with colourful elaborate scrolls and masks, supported by four lapis-lazuli veneered columns  surmounted by a putto, silver-gilt interior, the base richly  chased and enamelled with a coat of arms among scrolling foliage and flowers on matted ground, Vienna and Austrian control mark for 1867-1872

Condition

very good condition despite minute losses to enamel , especially to columns. Would benefit from professional cleaning.
