Catalogue Note

Cette statuette ibeji, honorant la mémoire d'un jumeau défunt, relève du style qui s'est épanoui dans la région d'Igbomina. Les soins qui lui ont été prodigués (elle était manipulée, lavée et choyée comme l'aurait été l'enfant décédé) ont effacé les traits du visage, accentuant la douceur naturaliste de l'effigie. Elle se distingue également par sa rare coiffe en dôme, très délicatement ouvragée. Voir Abiodun, Drewal et Pemberton III (Yoruba: Art and Aesthetics, 1991, p. 89, n° 102) pour un ibeji arborant une coiffe similaire.
