Very good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Fine dark patina with patinated reddish tone on edges.

Catalogue Note

"Les figurines anthropomorphes [des Lega] présentent des degrés radicalement différents de dimension, d'extrême diversité de formes abstraites, de morphologies inhabituelles, de sobriété des traits" (Biebuyck, Lega, Ethique et Beauté au cœur de l'Afrique, 2002, p. 118). Cette statuette, dans l'abstraction fondamentale des formes et des traits, constitue une saisissante interprétation de la pensée Lega, exprimée dans cet objet sacré lié aux rites d'initiation kindi et doté d'un nom repris dans un aphorisme spécifique.
