Condition

Good condition overall. Minor marks, nicks, scratches and small chips consistent with age and use. Losses to the rear rim and other small ones to the top on front side.

Catalogue Note

Très sensible témoin de l'art qui s'est épanoui dans la région frontalière de la Côte d'Ivoire et du Liberia, ce masque allie superbement la force des volumes à l'élégance du style Dan septentrional. L'équilibre des traits s'établit dans la tension des puissantes lignes axiales, tandis que l'étroite fente des yeux plissés l'identifie, en pays Dan, à un visage féminin. Voir Sotheby's (Paris, juin 2009, n° 8, et juin 2010, n° 38) pour deux masques très apparentés, collectés dans la région de Danané (Liberia), le premier par George Harley, le second par Roger Bédiat, en 1946.
