Condition

Good condition overall. Minor marks, nicks, scratches and small chips consistent with age and use.

Catalogue Note

Formés d'une plaque en écaille de tortue finement ajourée de motifs géométriques et montée sur un disque circulaire en tridacne, ces ornements frontaux dala illustrent superbement l'attention portée, dans les îles Salomon, à l'art de la parure. "Autrefois, les habitants des îles Salomon affirmaient leur statut et leur richesse par le port de parures précieuses d'une grande beauté. [...] l'ornement de tête dala avait particulièrement de la valeur" (Burt in Mélandrie, L'éclat des ombres. L'art en noir et blanc des îles Salomon, 2014, p. 101).
