encre, gouache et or sur papier à marges polychromes décorées de guirlandes dorées, 11 folios, 8 lignes de texte poétique par page, inscrites en persan, en nasta'liq, interrompues par des cartouches enluminés et inscrits à l'or, deux miniatures sur la première et la dernière page, l'une représentant Zulaikha empêchant Yusuf de quitter le palais, l'autre représentant les deux héros assis enlacés, la reliure en maroquin brun noir à décor estampé à l'or, l'intérieur garni de mandorles à motifs ajourés or 

Condition

There are brown stains to the margins of several pages. The faces of the figures in the miniatures show paint retouching. The binding repaired.

Catalogue Note

The scribe, Sultan Muhammad Khandan, is a famous nasta'liq calligrapher who worked in Herat. Vasifi quoted him as the leading student of Sultan Ali Mashhadi (D.J. Roxburgh, Prefacing the Image: The Writing of Art History in Sixteenth-century Iran, Brill, Leiden, 2001, p. 62). He worked for Mir 'Alishir Nava'i in his early years. Works by him are recorded between AH 915/1509-10 AD and AH 992/1584-5 AD (M. Bayani, Ahval va-Asar-e Khoshnevisan, vol.I, Tehran, 1988, pp. 268-71). For other works by him in Topkapi, see : F.E.
