  • An Egyptian Limestone Relief Fragment

  • 18 1/2 x 10 5/8 x 2 1/8 in. 47 x 27 x 5.4 cm.
carved in sunk relief with the head of a king, possibly Ptolemy I, facing left and wearing the Blue Crown surmounted by the Sukhos crown, composed of ram’s horns, plumes, and sun-disk, the sign for protection and a column of inscription at right.

Condition

Color is creamy not reddish as photo suggests. Note damages on surface as shown. The gray "encrustation" over the lower part seems to be coagulated ancient pigment, which along with normal surface wear obscures the details to more or less a degree, especially the eye and to a lesser extent the mouth. Best seen from a distance since the overall effect is impressive nevertheless.
