  • Height 10 5/8 in. 27 cm.
turned to her left, her eyes with incised irises and indented pupils, her centrally-parted hair swept back in wavy strands from the forehead and temples and bound in a large separately-carved circular chignon.

Provenance

French family collection, Le Vésinet, by descent since the late 19th Century (Drouot, Paris, December 14th, 2014, no. 33, illus.)

Condition

Nose and mouth restored in plaster, chin abraded and chipped, 2-in. long area of abrasion and small chips above proper left temple, heavy incrustation on forehead and proper left side of neck, face, and front of hair, proper right side of head was most likely encrusted as well, and appears to have been cleaned, and re-polished, minor chips and abrasions overall.
