Description

  • A Marble Head of the Resting Satyr

  • Height 7 1/4 in. 18.4 cm.
after the sculpture by Praxiteles of circa 330 B.C., his youthful face with full parted lips and incised irises, the thick wavy hair brushed up from the forehead and falling down behind the long pointed ears and over the nape of the neck.

Condition

Entire chin area, tip of nose, hair above the forehead, proper left ear (except for the earlobe), proper left eyebrow, hair behind the proper left ear, and most of the top of the head including the fillet restored in painted plaster. The surface is quite dirty overall. Chips and abrasions overall on the original parts.
