  • Rosso Antico marble
  • Height 7 7/8 in. 20 cm.

Provenance

acquired in the 19th Century

Condition

As shown, beard is repaired in a broad arc passing under the lower lip, end of nose restored evidently in marble, upper lip and eyes worn (the latter perhaps never fully finished and not well-defined), top of diadem chipped, hair falling behind ears is broken at the ends, hair chipped in places, moustache and nostril worn down on proper right side, surface somewhat worn but some encrustation remains, the back carved flat. Large areas of the stone have a reddish tint, unlike the catalogue photo.
