Catalogue Note

Lolo Sarnoff (1916-2014) was a collector, philanthropist, and accomplished sculptor, one of the first to make light sculptures combining fiber optics with plexiglass. She came from an unusually distinguished heritage of collecting and connoisseurship. Her father was the Frankfurt banker and art collector Willy Dreyfus (1885-1977). Her mother Martha, née Koch (1892-1965), also a sculptor and the subject of portraits by Vlaminck and Kokoschka, remarried in 1945 a friend from her youth, the legendary art collector Robert von Hirsch (1883-1977). His collection of paintings and works of art was sold in a landmark sale at Sotheby’s London in 1978, spanning six days, with fifty-three auction records set.
