Hand-colored engraving, etching and aquatint, 1834, by R. Havell, on wove paper with the J. Whatman 1834 watermark

Condition

The print is in good condition, wide margins and deep colors (e.g. the blue of the male Grackle). The sheet is trimmed (approx. 1 1/4 by 1 1/4 inches) with pale light-stain. Three areas of repaired paper loss, the largest approx. 8 1/2 by 1/2 inch in the top sheet edge, which has bleached. Occasional, unobtrusive tears in the sheet edges, the longest 3/4 of an inch. The verso, with three adhesive stains along the top sheet edge, presumably from a prior hinging. (Five inconspicuous rust flecks in the plate.)
