Two hand-colored engravings, etchings and aquatints, the first 1828, the second 1829, by R. Havell, each on wove paper with the J. Whatman 1833 watermark (2 prints)

Condition

Summer Red Bird (Plate XLIV): The print is in good condition, the full sheet. The red in the finches is attenuated. The engraved attribution lines annotated in pencil. Pale mat-stain is darkest at two mat openings; the first aligns with the plate mark and the second is 4 inches from the sheet edge. There is occasional surface soiling, soft-handling creases, time-stain at the extreme sheet edges and one fox mark in the left margin. A 1/4 by 1 inch area of paper loss in the bottom left corner of the sheet. The verso, with two adhesive stains in the top corners. Painted Finch (Plate LIII): The print is in good condition, the full sheet. Pale mat-stain, darkest at the mat opening, aligned with the plate mark. The top sheet edge is discolored (damp stain?). Occasional unobtrusive surface soiling, soft-handling creases and fox marks. Time-stain and an occasional tear, the longest 1/4 of an inch, at the extreme sheet edges. The verso, with four adhesive stains in the top corners.
