Condition
The following Condition report has been provided to Sotheby's by Mr. Simon Parkes:
This large early work by the artist has an old lining which is still effective, albeit slightly stiff. The sky and the mountains show almost no retouches or damages. The trees in the center left are very healthy. There are small retouches in the trees above the road on the far left to address some cracking which probably emanated from a penitmente or a change in the artist's composition. There are also a few retouches in the meadow in front of the road and beneath the cottage. There is no visible abrasion in the sky or landscape.
It seems that the artist may have revisited the center and distance in the water and there is a difference in color here which is slightly uneven. Some careful cleaning or diligent retouching may resolve this unevenness. The condition is quite respectable overall.
