Catalogue Note

An inveterate traveler from his first trips to France, Spain and North Africa in the early 1860s, Colman spent most of his time painting in picturesque locations along the Mediterranean.  Apes' Hill or Jebel Musa, a mountain in the northernmost part of Morocco on the African side of the Strait of Gibraltar, is part of the Rif alpine chain.
