Condition
Painted on a wood panel. In overall good condition; there is a horizontal crack through the panel corresponding to the grain of the wood and visible on both the front and reverse--the crack appears to have some age and is stable with only a few very small spots of paint loss (mainly visible under magnification); there is also an old, possibly original indentation across the crack of about 1/2 inch; three tiny white dots of pigment at lower center, possibly original to surface; the reverse has been reinforced with 6 small pieces of wood glued to the panel (with remnants of glue around them)

Catalogue Note
Around 1908, Marsden Hartley executed fourteen landscapes of Maine in various sizes. This work is thought to be one of those fourteen works.
