Catalogue Note

One of the dogs in the composition belonged to Mr. George Collins Warren, while the other is believed to have been owned by Percy Rockefeller.  Both were patrons of Rosseau's and Rockefeller frequently lent his bird dogs to the artist to use as models.  In fact, Rockefeller took such a liking to Rosseau that he made him a member of his hunting club at Overhills and had a studio built on his estate in near Fayetteville, North Carolina for him.
