The base board may have been replaced. Hasp and hinges probably original. Typical overall wear.

Catalogue Note

A very similar rosette-carved chest resides in the collection of the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford CT, see Veder, 1977, p. 41. That chest, like this one, features pictorial elements and scalloping that were likely added at a later date, not an uncommon practice.
