Catalogue Note
The present lot is accompanied by a letter from Eugene-Armand Bach to Pierre Lisle, which reads: My dear Pierre,/This watercolor representing the former model of Fortuny, also known as “King of Gypsies,” was executed in Granada in December 1879 by John S. Sargent during the journey we’d been on together in Spain and in Morocco during the 79-80 winter.” Bach gave this watercolor to Lisle, the son of his friend, as a wedding gift in 1917.
