Undine is the title character in a popular 19th century romantic fairy tale written by the German author Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué. She was a beautiful water nymph who gave up her eternal youth and acquired the soul of a human when she married the knight Huldebrand. The story has been adapted in multiple art forms, including literature, painting, sculpture, opera, ballet and film.
