boldy painted with two catfish swimming in the primordial reddened sea, each with crescent eye, toothy open mouth and long tail, the rim encircled by a band of repeat motifs.

Condition

Vessel appears intact; some paint loss on the reverse side than shown in catalogue; some strengthening of pigment on both fish.

The related vessels of catfish against a reddened ground, refer to the myth of the Hero Twins reborn as catfish in one of the Underworld sacrificial dramas.
