the backrest finely modeled with a human figure straining forward from the avian platform on his back secured with a tumpline around the forehead, his hands holding the band, and the bird with rounded wing and upturned beak, a spout at the side.

Overall very good; fill on the two projecting left flanges, repairs across mid-line on the flat part of the back and tail, arms, face, spout, and human legs; generally body is OK.

Catalogue Note
The stylized neck rests are typically shown with a human or dog supporting the flattened bird 'pillow'. Reclinatorios can be seen in the anecdotal sculptures of various house models. See Townsend (1998: 171, figs. 8 and 9), and for a highly similar example in the Proctor Stafford Collection, Los Angeles, see Kan et al. (1989:130, fig. 108).
