Overall excellent original condition. This study was given to the present owner by Claude Lalanne and is believed that this piece is a unique handmade work. Catalogue Note
Designed in 1984 and completed in 1986, the whimsical Lila Acheson Wallace Garden at Colonial Williamsburg represents the largest commission in the United States executed by François-Xavier and Claude Lalanne. The present lot is a miniature version of the naturalist chairs designed for the Garden, which incorporate silhouettes of cardinals, the state bird of Virginia. This study was given by Claude Lalanne to Dorothy Berenson Blau to commemorate this commission.
