Description

  • "Conoid" Bench
  • American black walnut, East Indian rosewood and hickory

Provenance

Acquired directly from the artist
Thence by descent

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The wood surfaces with a few minor surfaces scratches, minute edge abrasions and a few areas of discoloration consistent with age and gentle use. The seat with a few isolated minute discolorations from water and minor surface dirt, concentrated near the right and left edges of the bench. The wood used to execute this bench displays beautifully nuanced figuring and is slightly blonder when viewed in person than in the catalogue illustration. A wonderful example of Nakashima’s iconic Conoid bench form. ---
