Condition
Overall in very good condition. When viewed first-hand the glazed surface presents with vibrant color and iridescence throughout. The background iridescence with a brilliant range of luminous jewel tones, more saturated than in the catalogue illustration. The deeply sculptural pearl portions of the design displaying rich hues of blues and ultramarine. The center fruit displaying a beautifully contrasting iridized mother of pearl and rich gray palette. The reverse of the plate is fitted with a hanging system and the plate can be wall-mounted if desired. The glazed earthenware with some small and minute air bubbles and particulate inclusions inherent in the making and not at all visually detracting. The underside of the foot with very minor glaze irregularity inherent in the making.

Catalogue Note
In 1937, Birger Kaipiainen joined the art department of Arabia factory, the leading producer of innovative applied art. Over his 50-year career creating unique art ceramics, he distinguished himself though his limitless imagination, extraordinary range of themes, and his three-dimensional sculptural forms. Influenced by Surrealism, he created his own fantasy world in ceramics, and his color-saturated works with luxurious fruit and flower ornamentation would become hallmarks of Finnish design.
