Catalogue Note
Inspired by Synthetic Cubism, Rudolf Ausleger devoted a great part of his art to painting still life painting. Painted in 1927, Still life with Ace of Clubs was painted at the height of his career when, having been supported and encouraged by Georg Tappert, he exhibited with the November Group (Novembergruppe) from 1920 to 1932. With the rise of National Socialism, most of the November Group artists were regarded as “degenerate” and Ausleger was banned from exhibiting in Germany.
