Catalogue Note

Born in Mansoureh, Egypt, Baroukh was active in the Alexandrian art scene from 1934 onwards. Other examples of figurative works by Baroukh are held by the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Alexandria, including Motherhood and La Charette. Barouk was an active member of the Art and Freedom movement which embraced surrealism. In 1946, Baroukh moved to Paris where he developed into abstraction and cubism, a departure from his oeuvre during the Alexandria and Cairo years.
