Condition

The sculpture is lacking an attribute in her right hand. Wear and tarnishing to surface. Scratches visible to back of bronze back plate. Minor chips to marble.

Catalogue Note

In addition to being a successful sculptor, Chalon was an illustrator and a painter. He began exhibiting at the Salon in 1887 and studied under Lefebvre and Boulanger at the École des Beaux-Arts, winning several medals throughout his career. The present model was first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1899.
