Description

  • Wilhelm Schutze
  • Feeding the Geese
  • signed and inscribed W. Schütze, München lower left
  • oil on canvas
  • 60 by 67.5cm, 23¾ by 26½in.

Provenance

Mary Anne Kichschlager, Chicago

Condition

The canvas has been laid onto Masonite board. There is a fine pattern of drying craquelure, visible primarily in the darker pigments of the doorway. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals notably strokes of retouching along parts of the left framing edge, a thin line towards the lower right corner, a small spot in the handle of the rake and some small spots towards the top of the right framing edge. Under ultraviolet light some residual areas of old varnish fluoresce more opaquely, and it is possible that there are some signs of retouching which do not fluoresce clearly. The overall appearance of the painting under normal light is good and even, and it is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative rococo style frame.
