Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This painting has been recently restored and should be hung in its current condition. It seems that the picture may have been framed with an arched top in the past and there are restorations forming a wide semi-circle above and to the sides of the girl's head. The original paint layer reads quite darkly here but there are also restorations in the dark undergrowth to the left of the head. There are a few spots of retouching in the dark background above the floral garland in the sitters head and one other restoration in the left background, about 1 inch to the left of the girl's hair. The face, the figure and the landscape on either side are all beautifully preserved. There are a couple of restorations in the extreme lower right corner. There is a 1 inch strip of unrestored canvas across the top edge, which is quite damaged. It was the original tacking edge to this work, but not is not intended to be seen.
