Overall in good original condition with wear to high relief, notably to hand's knuckle, head, nose, Cleopatra's right foot, and back of slave.

Catalogue Note
In this impressive Orientalist group of a slave kneeling before Cléopatra, Dumaige recreates the pivotal scene from Gérôme's masterpiece, in which Cleopatra is revealed to Caesar, smuggled before him wrapped in a carpet (1866, Cléopatre et César). Dumaige exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1863 to 1886. He was a student of Augustin Alexandre Dumont and Jean-Jacques Feuchère.
