Catalogue Note

Completed circa 1890, this pastel was followed by Lhermitte's oil painting of the same subject exhibited at the Paris, Salon of 1892, no. 682, a replica in oil once held by the St. Louis Art Museum, and another replica in pastel made for Foques Duparc in 1896.
