Description

  • Jacques Marin
  • Saint Michael
  • signed: Jacques MARiN and inscribed: FONDERIE NLE DES BRONZES / J PETERMANN / ST GILLES BRUXELLES
  • bronze, gilt and dark brown patina, on a veined red and yellow marble base

Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some tarnishing to the gilt patina, consistent with the material. There is also minor rubbing to the dark brown patina of the dragon at the high points. There is minor greening to several of the crevices, and in particular below the dragon's proper left wing. The saint's wings and the proper right leg are cast separately, and joints are slightly visible. There are a few nicks and scratches, notably an area of scratches to the dragon's neck at the proper left side. The marble base is in good condition, with some dirt and wear. There are several chips and abrasions to the edges, and notably where the marble joins the bronze.
