Description
- Franz Xaver Bergman
- Rooster and Hen
- the rooster stamped with the Bergman seal and inscribed: GESCHÜTZT / ...18; the hen stamped: BERGM and 560(?)
- rooster: cold painted bronze, with glass eyes
hen: silvered and cold painted bronze, on a veined red marble base
Condition
Overall the condition of the bronzes is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surfaces consistent with age. There is some wear to the paint with minor losses, including to the rooster's neck feathers, his wings, and the orange below his tail, and to the beak and comb of the hen. There is a lacuna with some white residue to one of the rooster's wattles. The rooster's eyes are probably a later replacement. The rooster rocks forward slightly on an even surface.
The marble base is in good condition, with some very minor chips at the edges and corners. The top of the base has a rough polish.
