• the box of sarchophogus shape inlaid with stylized foliage and chased gilt-metal metal handle and feet, with applied brass plaque engraved Clarissa Emma Racey • the interior fitted with a removable velvet covered tray containing sewing and writing implements in gold, silver gilt, engraved mother of pearl and polished steel, and some with black champlevé enamel, the base of the interior fitted with a glazed compartment revealing the music movement, signed Martinet et Benoit no. 3804 • the movement with brass pin barrel, steel comb and teeth; the tunes identified by restorer's label, Waltz de l'Oberon de Weber, Ditanti Palpiti, Tancredi and Toi que L'oiseau, Guillaume Tell, the music with restorer's name of François Alibert • with Paris goldmarks for 1819-1838

Condition

The present lot contains endangered species which is subject to United States Fish & Wildlife Services restrictions upon international export. The time frame for shipment outside the United States is approximately 6-8 months. The box is in overall good condition with some restoration to the lid with a filled crack and small restoration to veneer. Tray and interior silk slightly discolored from age. The interior bottom of the box in good condition with discoloration to the silk around the music box. Interior of music box with minor restoration, music in working order. Accompanied by an original key for the box.
