  • A RARE GOLD AND ENAMEL SINGING BIRD BOX CIRCA 1850
  • gold, enamel, hummingbird
  • length 9.5 cm
• rectangular box with oval plaque enameled with a Swiss mountain scene, the underside enameled with a bouquet of summer flowers • the bird raising from scroll bird-shaped pierced and engraved reserve, brightly feathered bird, with flapping wings, swiveling body, turning head, moving beak and flapping tail • the surround overlaid with translucent blue enamel against an engine-turned ground, further with polychrome enamel florets and gold scrollwork, and opaque white enamel kidney shaped motif at each corner • the case sides and bottom engine-turned and engraved with foliate swags against a finely engine-turned ground

Condition

The present lot contains endangered species which is subject to United States Fish & Wildlife Services CITES restrictions upon international export. The time frame for shipment outside the United States is approximately 6-8 months. The bird is currently not working, but complete and will need an overhaul. The enamel is in overall good condition with one minor area of restoration to the top of the tree on the right side or 1 o’clock. Additionally with one small chip to the tree trunk at 3 o'clock.
