Catalogue Note

The reference 6036 was the third generation of Rolex triple date chronograph watches, beginning with the 4767, then the 5036, followed by the present reference 6036, and ending with the reference 6236. The watch has since been graced with the nickname the 'Jean-Claude Killy' after the famous French skier wore a Dato Compax on the slopes.

The present 18k yellow gold Dato Compax 6036 is offered in beautiful original condition. The case exhibits normal wear to the top right lug, however shows no sign of intentional polish. The lugs and case band remain thick, and close examination between the lugs shows the reference number and the serial number have both been stamped twice on top of each other, an error upon being crafted in the Rolex factory.

The dial of the present 6036 is an exceptional example of an original non-luminous dial, with original printing and hands, and crisp edges on the apertures and indexes. The present lot is truly an incredible example of an iconic Rolex sportswatch, and would be an exceptional Rolex to add to any collection.
