Condition

Original canvas. There is a faint craquelure pattern in the dark areas of pigment, mainly in upper half, visible upon close insection. There is a patch on the reverse of the canvas, above the red dog's bowl, to a previous tear which has been recently repaired. The surface would benefit from a light clean. Ultraviolet light reveals an opaque varnish. There is an area of retouching corresponding to the above mentioned patch and also a smaller area of retouching to the body of the left hand dog and another to the right of its head. Further smaller isolated areas of retouching across the canvas, these are not excessive. Held in a decorative gilt plaster frame.
