"The Russian embassy to Constantinople of 1793 took place a year after the treaty of Jassy, in which the Porte recognised the Russian annexation of the Crimea and ceded the territory between the Dniester and Southern Bug rivers. Reimers (1768-1812), an Estonian from Reval (i.e. Tallinn), had left the diplomatic service after the death of Catherine the Great" (Koç).
